THE ARYAN REPUBLICAN ARMY
=========================
In 1984, Robert Jay Matthews died in a shootout with  police
on Whidby Island, which is located just  off  the  coast  of
Washington state. Matthews was the  leader  of  a  far-Right
wing  group  calling  itself  The  Order.  This  group   was
responsible for a number of bank and armored  car  robberies
in  the  Pacific  Northwest, netting them almost $4 million.
In other  exploits,  Order  members  bombed  synagogues  and
assassinated Alan Berg, a Jewish radio  talk  show  host  in
Denver. The group ended with the death of Matthews  and  the
imprisonment of other members. [2]

A new and disturbing terrorist sect, similiar in  nature  to
The Order, has emerged in the United States. It  is  modeled
after the 'The Order' and The Irish Republican Army  and  is
adopting  the  IRA  structure  of  impenetrable  underground
cells. Calling itself the Aryan Republican Army,  the  group
represents  the  most  paramilitary  and  radical   of   the
American  neo-Nazi  movement.  It  is   committed   to   the
overthrow  of  the  US  government,  the  extermination   of
America's  Jews,  and  the  establishment   of   an   "Aryan
Republic"  on  the  North  American  continent.   "We   call
ourselves the Aryan Republican Army because in some  of  our
tactics, and  some  of  our  goals,  we  have  modeled  the
organization after the successful and yet  undefeated  Irish
Republican Army," said Commander Pedro [1], in  a  self-made
video titled  ``The  Aryan  Republican  Army  Presents:  The
Armed Struggle Underground.'' [4] In the video, Langan  also
advocates that "Federal buildings may have to be bombed  and
civilian loss of life  is  regrettable but expected."

The FBI discovered this terrorist cell by  accident  earlier
this year while investigating a string of 18 bank  robberies
in the Mid West. [1] The bank bandits made off with  upwards
of $500,000 before the FBI caught on to  them.

With a tip from a confidential informant, the FBI  was  able
to pinpoint one of the bank  robbers,  Richard  Lee  Guthrie
Jr., member  of  the  Aryan  Republican  Army.  Guthrie  was
arrested on  Jan  15,  1996.  Two  days  after  his  arrest,
Guthrie told FBI agents they could find co-conspirator  Pete
"Commander Pedro" Langan in a duplex at  585  Reinhard  Ave.
on the South Side. On Jan 18, 1996,  agents  surrounded  the
house and arrested Langan after a brief shootout. [2]

Guthrie struck a  plea  bargain  with  the  authorities  and
fingered Scott Stedeford, Kevin McCarthy, and Aryan  Nations
leader Mark Thomas, as accomplices in  the  bank  robberies,
all of whom have since been arrested by the authorities.

McCarthy plead guilty  to  three  robberies  and  agreed  to
testify against the others, while  Stedeford  was  convicted
of bank robbery in Iowa in November 1996 (and  faces  thirty
years in prison). Langan was convicted  in  Columbus,  Ohio,
on February 10, 1997. Richard Lee Guthrie was  found  hanged
in his jail  cell  shortly  after  he  struck a plea bargain
and fingered the other Aryan accomplices.

Mark Thomas was brought up on charges by a Grand  Jury.  The
Grand Jury indictment says Thomas  "recruited  young  people
at his residence....to rob banks and commit other crimes  on
behalf of the Aryan Republican Army," [3]

Thomas has since said he believed McCarthy,  a  skinhead  he
once described as a son, was an accomplice in  the  Oklahoma
City bombing. He said Richard Guthrie told him  as  much  in
July 1995.

"His exact words were: 'Your young Mr. Wizard took  out  the
Murrah Building,'" Thomas said. [3]

On February 18, 1997,  Thomas  plead  guilty  to  conspiracy
charges of plotting seven  (of  twenty-two)  bank  robberies
and using the funds  to  further  the  cause  of  the  Aryan
Republican Army.

Also arrested on Jan 30, 1997 in connection  with  the  case
was Michael Brescia of Philadelphia. Typical of  the  gang's
robbiers, authorities say, was  a  bank  heist  in  Madison,
Wis., on Aug. 30, 1995. Brescia carried a black-powder  pipe
bomb into a Bank One branch  and  threatened  customers  and
employees with a 9mm pistol, and proceeded to rob  the  bank
of $9,845. [4] Internet postings and a civil  suit  by  some
survivors of the bombing have accused Brescia  of  being  an
accomplice in the Oklahoma City Bombing.

Aside from robbing  banks,  the  terrorist  cell  stockpiled
weapons  and  ammunition,  and  had  every  opportunity   to
orchestrate  a  terrorist  bombing.  The  FBI   captured   a
shoulder-fired   rocket   launcher,    Semtex    explosives,
hand-grenade canisters, 11 pipe-bombs,  and  an  arsenal  of
guns.  "These  people  had  a  support  system.   They   had
safe-houses  and  very  good  false  documents,"  said  Mike
Reynolds,  senior  intelligence  analyst  at  the   Southern
Poverty  Law  Centre,  which  monitors  Right-wing  violence
across  the  country.  "They  were  clearly  preparing   for
something beyond bank  robberies." [1]   Among  other  items
seized from a storage locker belonging to the group was  the
Irish Republican Army handbook, a terrorist manual known  in
Ireland as the Green  Book,  along  with  an  assortment  of
books on the Irish struggle including A  Little  History  of
Ireland by Seamus MacCall and cassette  tapes  of  a  Gaelic
language course. [1]

ELOHIM CITY - BASE OF OPERATIONS
================================

Elohim City is a 400-acre  compound  located  near  Muldrow,
Oklahoma, about thirty-five miles northwest of  Fort  Smith,
Arkansas. It  was  founded  in  1973  by  Robert  Millar,  a
Canadian who preaches  that  white  Anglo-Saxons  are  God's
chosen people,  non-whites  are  descendants  of  pre-Adamic
species lower than whites, and Jews  are  Satan's  children.
Two dozen of Millar's  34  grandchildren  reside  at  Elohim
City, making up about a quarter of the resident  population.
Elohim City is considered a hotbed  of  terrorist  activity.
Members of the Aryan Republican  Army  used  the  seperatist
compound as a base of operations in  the  years  before  the
bombing.

In 1994, Michael Brescia  moved  to  Elohim  City  where  he
shared a one-story house behind the compound's  chapel  with
Andreas Strassmeir, a former German army lietenant and  head
of security at Elohim City. By the time Brescia left  Elohim
City in 1995, investigators  say,  he,  Stedeford,  Guthrie,
and McCarthy were active in the Aryan Republican Army. [4]

STRASSMIER -- HEAD OF SECURITY FOR ELOHIM CITY
==============================================

As of yet, Strassmier has not been identified  as  a  member
of the Aryan Republican Army, however, he was  friends  with
Brescia  and  various  members  of  the  Aryan  Underground.
According to Robert Millar,  "Strassmier  and  Brescia  were
buddies." In a phone interview with  John  Cash,  Strassmeir
said  he  liked  Brescia  because  ``he   had   a   lot   of
self-confidence'' and was ``a smart guy''.  [20]  Strassmier
also trained members of the Aryan Nations  at  Elohim  City,
and provided instruction in security measures. According  to
ATF Informant  Carol  Howe,  "Strassmeir  talked  frequently
about direct action against the U.S. government, he  trained
in weaponry, and he discussed assassinations,  bombings  and
mass shootings." [20]

Just Who is Andy the German?

Andreas Carl Strassmier is the son  of  Guenter  Strassmeir,
"the architect of German reunification" who was once  a  top
aide to German Chancellor Helmut  Kohl.  Andreas  Strassmeir
spent seven years in  the  German  army,  serving  with  the
Panzer Grenadiers and  an  elite  German  intelligence  unit
whose purpose was  to  feed  disinformation  to  East-German
Communist-bloc agents.

Strassmeir  told  the  London  Telegraph  that  "I've  never
worked for any U.S government  agency,  and  I've  not  been
involved in any intelligence operation  since  my  discharge
from the German army in 1988." But he acknowledged he  first
lived in the U.S. in 1989 because "I was hoping to work  for
the operations section of the DEA.  It  never  worked  out."
More revealingly, he noted that "the right-wing in the  U.S.
is incredibly easy to penetrate if you know how to  talk  to
them. Of course it's easier for a foreigner with an  accent.
Nobody would ever  suspect  a  German  of  working  for  the
federal government."

Strassmeir was assisted in his unsucessful attempts  to  get
jobs with the DEA or INS by  Vinvent  Petruskie,  a  retired
Air Force Colonel and (Strassmeir says) CIA agent  for  whom
Strassmeir arranged to buy used Boeing 747s from  Lufthansa.
Strassmeir received a social  security  number  in  1989  in
Virginia, and  obtained  a  Tennessee  driver's  license  in
1992, using a Knoxville address  provided  by  his  attorney
Kirk  Lyons.  In  1991  some  members  of  the  Texas  Light
Infantry Brigade, a citizen's militia,  followed  Strassmeir
to a federal building and observed him entering it at  night
using  the  key-pad. [20, 22]

After obtaining false documentation and a  drivers  license,
Strassmier was still  unable  to  find  a  job  (other  than
government  informant).  Because  Andy  could  not   legally
obtain a job,  and  because  of  his  apparant  intrests  in
'alternative lifestyles',  Andy  moved  to  Elohim  City  in
1993. At that time,  he  had  lived  in  the  United  States
illegally for five years.

Zara Patterson III, a long time  resident  of  Elohim  City,
summed up Strassmeir's intentions as equally ominous.  "From
the moment Andy got here (mid-August 1991) all he wanted  us
to do was illegal stuff. I had to keep telling Andy that  we
were defensive here... not offensive. I had to keep  telling
him that we didn't want any trouble with the Feds."

"I never saw anyone so eaten up with military stuff as  Andy
was," recalled Zara Patterson III. "I was  in  the  Marines,
but Andy was like nothing I ever  saw  before.  He  said  he
wanted to take over security and training here at EC, and  I
said fine. It was one less headache for me."

According to an FBI intelligence report, Strassmeir's  spent
his  time  at  Elohim  City  fortifying  and   operating   a
terrorist training facility.

A May 10, 1995 FBI investigative report says:

"Strassmeir is alleged to be a German citizen  whose  father
was a former member of  the  German  parliament.  Strassmeir
was a  member  of  the  German  military  and  according  to
sources the principal militia trainer at Elohim City."

"Strassmeir has an outstanding  federal  warrant  issued  by
the  Immigration  and  Naturalization  Service  (INS)  since
failing to leave this country in 1991.

"Strassmeir  is  alleged  to  train   platoon-sized   groups
consisting   of   approximately   30   to   40   individuals
approximately  every  three  months  at  the   Elohim   City
facility. These individuals  are  comprised  of  members  of
various militia groups throughout the United States."

"Additional documents reveal that  at  one  time  Strassmeir
was attempting to purchase a 747  aircraft  from  Lufthansa;
however the reason for the purchase is not reflected in  the
documents."

"Sources  have  advised  that  in  1992  Elohim   City   had
approximately 122 truck loads of concrete  transported  from
a  local  concrete  company.  Sources  have  indicated   the
existence of 'bunkers' and  weapons  storage  facilities  at
Elohim City."

In  a  Jan.  2,  1996  interview,   Strassmeir   admits   to
upgrading the Elohim City arsenal.

"They're pretty fully  equipped  over  there  (Elohim  City)
and I can take credit for that," he said. "They  never  even
had any real weapons there  until  after  Waco  (1993).  The
whole response was to Waco... they thought they  were  going
to be targeted."

Strassmier remained at Elohim City until the  Oklahoma  City
Bombing, at which time he  left  the  compound  with  fellow
Elomites Pete and Tony Ward. In a letter  to  the  McCurtain
Gazette from Strassmeir's attorney, Kurt Lyons,  Lyons  says
his client's sudden departure from the  U.S.  was  aided  by
members of Germany's elite counterterrorism unit, GSG-9.

Dennis  Mahon,  Tulsa  representative  of  the  White  Aryan
Resisitence, has named the Ward brothers as  being  possible
OKC Bombing accomplices. When shown an artist's sketch  done
by ABC News of the person that  a  witness  in  Kansas  said
used the name of Bob Kling, Mahon didn't  hesitate,  "That's
Pete Ward." [11]

"Ward," Mahon  explained,  "was  known  at  Elohim  City  as
'Andy's shadow'...Ward went everywhere  Strassmeir  did  and
is dumb as dirt."

THE FIRST PLOT
==============

"It has the potential, down the road, of being the most dangerous
group (Elohim City) in the country."

Residents of Elohim City being  connected  with  plots  that
were intended to blow up the Murrah building did  not  begin
with  the  Aryan  Republican  Army.  On  April  19th,  1985,
exactly ten years before the bombing of the Murrah  building
the FBI and ATF raided members of James Ellison's  Covenant,
Sword, and Arm of the Lord group. Ellison is now married  to
Reverend Robert Millar's granddaughter and lives  at  Elohim
City.

The 1985 raid on Elohim City  became  a  siege  that  lasted
four  days  before  members  of  the  group  surrendered  to
authorities. After the  raid,  while  preparing  a  sedition
case against Ellison, U.S.  Assistant  attourney  Steven  N.
Snyder, in Fort Smith, Arkansas learned that a plot to  blow
up the building had existed as early as 1983.  [13]  Ellison
admitted in court that he had been involved  in  a  plot  to
bomb the Murrah Building. Another member of  conspirator  in
the 1983 bombing plan was  Terry  Nobles,  now  an  anti-neo
nazi activist. Nobles said "In 1983 we  cased  the  [Murrah]
building, and made plans to blow up that building." [23]

Richard Wayne Snell, another member of the Covenant,  was  a
co-conspirator with Ellison  and  Nobles.  Snell  has  since
been convicted and put to death for the murder  of  a  black
police officer and a businessman he believed to  be  jewish.
[14] Richard Wayne Snell was executed on April  19th,  1995.
The Denver  Post  reported  Arkansas  prison  official  Alan
Ables as saying that before Snell's execution on the day  of
the bombing he had "repeatedly predicted  that  there  would
be a bombing or explosion on the day of  his  death."  Snell
also  reportedly  "chuckled  and  laughed  as   he   watched
television coverage of the Oklahoma City disaster." [13]

THE KEHOE CONNECTION
====================

On July 17, 1997, a $20 million bond  was  set  by  an  Ohio
Judge for Chevie Kehoe, former resident of Elohim City. [27]

Kehoe was  detained  for  questioning  in  the  slayings  of
Tilly, Ark., gun dealer David Mueller his  wife  Nancy,  and
her  daughter,  Sarah  Elizabeth  Powell,   8.   The   three
disappeared in January 1996. Their  decomposed  bodies  were
dredged from the Illinois Bayou near Russellville, Ark. [15]

Kehoe is believed to have used a .223-caliber rifle,  stolen
from Meuller, when he  fired  26  shots  during  the  second
shootout with two Wilmington police officers at the  Clinton
Electrical and Plumbing Supply. The  reader  may  recognized
this shootout as it has  been  featured  on  primetime  tv's
'Cops', 'World's Scariest Police Shootouts', and  'PrimeTime
Live.'

Chevie Kehoe was assisted in the shootout  by  his  brother,
Cheyne Kehoe. Both brothers had spent time at  Elohim  City.
Robert Millar,  the  bearded  patriarch  of  this  so-called
"Christian Identity" compound, confirms  that  the  brothers
had  lived  at  Elohim  City,  along  with   four   of   the
Pennsylvania men indicted earlier this year in the ARA  bank
robberies. [16]

In recent news, The FBI is investigating claims by a  former
motel manager who says that  Chevie  Kehoe,  member  of  the
ARA, may have known months in advance of  Timothy  McVeigh's
plans to bomb the Oklahoma City federal building.

The FBI has interviewed the motel manager, who  said  Chevie
Kehoe showed up at the Spokane  motel  on  April  19,  1995,
about 45 minutes before the bombing, and said he  wanted  to
watch CNN. He reportedly was ecstatic when a  news  bulletin
reported the blast. [15]

The Spokesman Review newspaper in  Spokane  reported  Friday
that the hotel manager said Kehoe said "it was about  time''
after the explosion was reported. "Days before that, he  had
mentioned  to  me  that  there's  going  to   be   something
happening on the 19th and it's going to  wake  people  up,''
the manager told the newspaper on condition of anonymity.

ARA/ELOHIM CITY LINKS TO MCVEIGH AND FORITER
============================================

What makes this Aryan Army cell so menacing is  the  growing
body of evidence that its members were in contact  with  Tim
McVeigh, the prime suspect in the bombing  of  the  Oklahoma
federal building in April 1995.

McVeigh telephoned Andreas  Strassmier  at  Elohim  City  on
April 5,  1995,  just  minutes  after  reserving  the  truck
allegedly used in the bombing. [8,9]  On  October  12,  1993
McVeigh was stopped for speeding on  the  secluded  road  to
Elohim City. [10] Why did McVeigh call Elohim City to  speak
to Strassmier? What  was  McVeigh  doing  so  close  to  the
'patriot' community at Elohim City?

Even the spiritual leader of  Elohim  City,  Robert  Mollar,
has verified that Michael Fortier had visited  Elohim  City.
From an interview on KOKH-TV OKC, Robert  Mollar  was  asked
if Michael  Fortier  had  ever  been  to  Elohim  City.  His
response, "He might have been here for two or three days.  I
can't answer you. I would  think  it  would  be  before  the
bombing or shortly after. Right in that time frame." [6]

Confirming  Robert  Mollar's  testimony  is  Department   of
Alchohol Tobacco and Firearms Confidential Informant,  Carol
Howe. Among her  more  than  70  reports  to  the  ATF  were
warnings that two Elohim City  subjects  were  casing  three
Oklahoma federal buildings-- and preparing for a  subsequent
bombing. Howe  said  it  was  during  this  December,  1994,
period that Timothy McVeigh and Mike Fortier visited. [12]

"Sometime before Christmas a lot of guys  showed  up  at  EC
(Elohim City). One that I recall was Tim  (McVeigh),  who  I
only knew as Tim Tuttle. He was there with a  guy  who  used
the  name  Fontaine,  a  person  I  now  recognize  as  Mike
Fortier." [12]

Placing even MORE credence  to  this  theory  is  the  court
testimony of Michael Fortier. When  Nichols  Defense  Lawyer
Michael Tigar  asked  Fortier  "..you  said  that  you  were
fearful  of  reprisals  from  the  Aryan  movement  if   you
testified  against  Timothy  McVeigh;   correct?",   Fortier
answered in the affirmitive, "that is correct." [7]

In yet another strange turn  of  events,  Timothy  McVeigh's
sister said in a sworn statement dated  May  2,  1995,  that
Tim gave her (3)  $100.00  bills  and  asked  that  they  be
exchanged for 'clean money' because, her brother  said,  the
bills were "from a recent  bank  robbery  in  which  he  and
others had participated." [17]

Another confirmation  of  this  comes  from  Terry  Nichols.
While being  questioned  on  April  21st,  after  he  turned
himself in at the Kansas police station, Nichols  seemed  to
think that McVeigh was going to rob a bank. The  transcripts
of the FBI questionining indicate  something  very  peculiar
about Terry Nichols and Timothy McVeigh's April  16th,  1995
trip from Oklahoma City to Herington, Kansas.  Nichols  said
that on April 16th, Timothy McVeigh told him "You  will  see
something big in the future." Nichols asked, "What  are  you
going to do, rob a bank?" [18] What this does  indicate,  is
that Terry Nichols did wasn't aware  of  a  bombing  in  the
making,  but  he  was  familiar  with  McVeigh's  links   to
robbery. Why else would Nichols think of bank robbery  right
away, unless he was already familiar  with  McVeigh's  links
to such robbery?

Other circumstances include that when McVeigh  was  arrested
by State Trooper Charles Hanger, he had 2,000 cash  on  him.
[19] He hadn't had a job in six  months.  Later  information
revealed the the unemployed McVeigh had over $10,000  hidden
away in a number of  bank  accounts,  and  several  thousand
dollars stashed in storage units. [5]

In 1992, Catina Lawson,  who  lived  in  Herington,  Kansas,
remembers seeing  Strassmeir  along  with  Timothy  McVeigh,
whom she dated. Lawson recalled that  Strassmeir  "liked  to
dress in black, and he was real cold  and  arrogant--a  real
jerk." Two other witnesses, Larry and Cathy Wild,  say  they
saw and talked with Strassmeir at a lake north of  Herington
the week before the OKC bombing [21]

STRASSMIER, BRESCIA, MCVEIGH CELEBRATE
======================================

When he wasn't robbing banks and training  with  members  of
the  Aryan  Republican  Army,  Michael  Brescia   apparently
celebrated at a strip club or two.  Five  women  at  a  Lady
Godiva's of Tulsa have identified  Michael  Brescia  as  the
man they saw sitting with Tim McVeigh - and paying  for  the
drinks - on April 8, 1995, 11 days before the bombing. [1]

On  a  program  called  "The  Fifth  Estate,"  the  Canadian
counterpart to this  country's  "Sixty  Minutes,"  reporters
obtained  portions  of  a  security  video  taken  at   Lady
Godivas, the Tulsa Strip club. John Cash, of  the  McCurtain
Gazette has also followed up on this story  and  acquired  a
copy of the video tape.

The videotape  was  taken  in  the  dressing  room  of  Lady
Godiva's on the night of April 8, 1995. A dancer is  clearly
heard saying, "And he said,  'I'm  a  very  smart  man.'....
'You are?'.... 'Yes, I am.'....  'And  on  April  19,  1995,
you'll remember me for the rest of  your  life!'"  Laughing,
she  says,  "Oh,  really?"  "Yes  you  will,"  she  says  he
responded. [25] Smiling wide, the dancer starts to walk  out
of the dressing room where the security camera was  located,
then turns back to  the  other  girls  and  says,  "Weirdo,"
before returning out front. Today it can  be  revealed  that
from photographs, witnesses at the club identified  the  man
doing the bragging as  Timothy  McVeigh,  and  those  seated
with him as Michael Brescia,  and  his  former  Elohim  City
roommate, Andreas Strassmeir. [26] The  witnesses  from  the
topless club agreed to appear on that Canadian  TV  segment,
identifying the photos. [25] The FBI has reviewed a copy  of
the video from the club and has also  interviewed  the  same
witnesses featured in  the  CBC  program,  but  the  Justice
Department has made no official comment on what they  intend
to do with the evidence. Since then, one of  the  witnesses,
Shawn Tea Farrens, 23,  was  found  dead  in  her  apartment
(September 1996)

I know most of you who personally know me are in disbelief to hear from media reports that I am suspected of committing such horrendous murders and have taken drastic and shocking actions in the last couple of days. You are saying to yourself that this is completely out of character of the man you knew who always wore a smile wherever he was seen. I know I will be vilified by the LAPD and the media. Unfortunately, this is a necessary evil that I do not enjoy but must partake and complete for substantial change to occur within the LAPD and reclaim my name. The department has not changed since the Rampart and Rodney King days. It has gotten worse. The consent decree should never have been lifted. The only thing that has evolved from the consent decree is those officers involved in the Rampart scandal and Rodney King incidents have since promoted to supervisor, commanders, and command staff, and executive positions.

The question is, what would you do to clear your name?

A name is more than just a noun, verb, or adjective. It’s your life, your legacy, your journey, sacrifices, and everything you’ve worked hard for every day of your life as and adolescent, young adult and adult. Don’t let anybody tarnish it when you know you’ve live up to your own set of ethics and personal ethos.

In 8/07 I reported an officer (Ofcr. XXXX/now a Sergeant), for kicking a suspect (excessive force) during a Use of Force while I was assigned as a patrol officer at LAPD’s Harbor Division. While cuffing the suspect, (XXXX), XXXX kicked the suspect twice in the chest and once in the face. The kick to the face left a visible injury on the left cheek below the eye. Unfortunately after reporting it to supervisors and investigated by PSB (internal affairs investigator Det. XXXX), nothing was done. I had broken their supposed “Blue Line”. Unfortunately, It’s not JUST US, it’s JUSTICE!!! In fact, 10 months later on 6/25/08, after already successfully completing probation, acquiring a basic Post Certificate, and Intermediate Post Certificate, I was relieved of duty by the LAPD while assigned to patrol at Southwest division. It is clear as day that the department retaliated toward me for reporting XXXX for kicking Mr. XXXX. The department stated that I had lied and made up the report that XXXX had kicked the suspect.

I later went to a Board of Rights (department hearing for decision of continued employment) from 10/08 to 1/09. During this BOR hearing a video was played for the BOR panel where XXXX stated that he was indeed kicked by Officer XXXX (video sent to multiple news agencies). In addition to XXXX stating he was kicked, his father XXXX, also stated that his son had stated he was kicked by an officer when he was arrested after being released from custody. This was all presented for the department at the BOR hearing. They still found me guilty and terminated me.

What they didn’t mention was that the BOR panel made up of Capt. XXXX, Capt. XXXX, and City Attorney XXXX had a significant problem from the time the board was assembled. Capt. XXXX was a personal friend of XXXX from when he was her supervisor at Harbor station. That is a clear conflict of interest and I made my argument for his removal early and was denied. The advocate for the LAPD BOR was Sgt. XXXX. XXXX also had a conflict of interest as she was XXXX friend and former partner from Harbor division where they both worked patrol together. I made my argument for her removal when I discovered her relation to XXXX and it was denied.

During the BOR, the department attempted to label me unsuccessfully as a bully. They stated that I had bullied a recruit, XXXX, in the academy when in reality and unfounded disposition from the official 1.28 formal complaint investigation found that I was the one who stood up for XXXX when other recruits sang nazi hitler youth songs about burning Jewish ghettos in WWII Germany where his father was a survivor of a concentration camp. How fucking dare you attempt to label me with such a nasty vile word. I ask that all earnest journalist investigating this story ask Ofcr. XXXX about the incident when Ofcr. XXXX began singing a nazi youth song about burning jewish ghettos.

The internal affairs investigation in the academy involving XXXX was spurned by a complaint that I had initiated toward two fellow recruit/offifcers. While assigned patrol footbeat in Hollywood Division, Officers XXXX and XXXX (both current LAPD officers) decided that they would voice their personal feelings about the black community.

While traveling back to the station in a 12 passenger van I heard XXXX refer to another individual as a nigger. I wasn’t sure if I heard correctly as there were many conversations in the van that was compiled of at least 8 officers and he was sitting in the very rear and me in the very front. Even with the multiple conversations and ambient noise I heard Officer XXXX call an indivdual a nigger again. Now that I had confirmed it, I told XXXX not to use that word again. I explained that it was a well-known offensive word that should not be used by anyone. He replied, “I’ll say it when I want”.

Officer XXXX, a friend of his, also stated that he would say nigger when he wanted. At that point I jumped over my front passenger seat and two other officers where I placed my hands around XXXXs’ neck and squeezed. I stated to XXXX, “Don’t fucking say that”. At that point there was pushing and shoving and we were separated by several other officers. What I should have done, was put a Winchester Ranger SXT 9mm 147 grain bullet in his skull and Officer XXXX’s skull. The Situation would have been resolved effective, immediately.

The sad thing about this incident was that when Detective XXXX from internal affairs investigated this incident only (1) officer (unknown) in the van other than myself had statements constistent with what actually happened. The other six officers  all stated they heard nothing and saw nothing. Shame on every one of you. Shame on Detective XXXX (same ethnicity as XXXX) for creating a separate 1.28 formal complaint against me (XXXX complaint) in retaliation for initiating the complaint against XXXX and XXXX. Don’t retaliate against honest officers for breaking your so-called blue line. I hope your son XXXX, who I knew, is a better officer than you, Detective XXXX. The saddest part of this ordeal was that Officer XXXX and XXXX were only given 22 day suspensions and are still LAPD officers to this day.

That day, the LAPD stated that it is acceptable for fellow officers to call black officers niggers to their face and you will receive a slap on the wrist. Even sadder is that during that 22 day suspension XXXX and XXXX received is that the LAPPL (Los Angeles Police Protective League) paid the officers their salaries while they were suspended. When I took a two-day suspension for an accidental discharge, I took my suspension and never applied for a league salary. Its called integrity.

Journalist, I want you to investigate every location I resided in growing up. Find any incidents where I was ever accused of being a bully. You won’t, because it doesn’t exist. It’s not in my DNA. Never was. I was the only black kid in each of my elementary school classes from first grade to seventh grade in junior high and any instances where I was disciplined for fighting was in response to fellow students provoking common childhood schoolyard fights, or calling me a nigger or other derogatory racial names. I grew up in neighborhoods where blacks make up less than 1%.

My first recollection of racism was in the first grade at Norwalk Christian elementary school in Norwalk, CA. A fellow student, XXXX if I can recall, called me a nigger on the playground. My response was swift and non-lethal. I struck him fast and hard with a punch an kick. He cried and reported it to a teacher. The teacher reported it to the principal. The principal swatted XXXX for using a derogatory word toward me. He then for some unknown reason swatted me for striking XXXX in response to him calling me a nigger. He stated as good Christians we are to turn the other cheek as Jesus did.

Problem is, I’m not a fucking Christian and that old book, made of fiction and limited non-fiction, called the bible, never once stated Jesus was called a nigger. How dare you swat me for standing up for my rights for demanding that I be treated as an equal human being. That day I made a life decision that i will not tolerate racial derogatory terms spoken to me. Unfortunately I was swatted multiple times for the same exact reason up until junior high. Terminating me for telling the truth of a Caucasian officer kicking a mentally ill man is disgusting.

Don’t ever call me a fucking bully. I want all journalist to utilize every source you have that specializes in collections for your reports. With the discovery and evidence available you will see the truth. Unfortunately, I will not be alive to see my name cleared. That’s what this is about, my name. A man is nothing without his name. During the BOR an officer named, Sgt. XXXX, from Los Angeles Port Police testified on behalf of the LAPD. XXXX stated for the BOR that he arrived at the location of the UOF shortly before I cuffed the suspect. He also stated that he assisted in cuffing the suspect and that’s old the BOR he told me to fix my tie. All of those statements were LIES!!! XXXX, you arrived at the UOF location up to 30 seconds after I had cuffed Mr.XXXX. All you did was help me lift the suspect to his feet as it was difficult for me to do by myself because of his heavy weight. You did not tell me to fix my tie as the BOR members and everyone else in the room know you lied because the photographic evidence from the UOF scene where XXXX’s injuries were photographed clearly shows me wearing a class B uniform on that day.

A class B uniform is a short sleeved uniform blouse. A short sleeved uniform blouse for the LAPD does not have a tie included. This is not Super Troopers uniform, you jackass. Why did you feel the need to embellish and lie about your involvement in the UOF? Are you ashamed that you could not get hired on by any other department other than port police? Do you have delusions of grandeur? What you did was perjury, exactly what XXXX did when she stated she did not kick XXXX.

What they failed to mention in the BOR was XXXX own use of force history during her career on the LAPD. She has admitted that she has a lengthy use of force record and has been flagged several times by risk management. She has a very well known nickname, Chupacabra, which she was very proud to flaunt around the division.

She found it very funny and entertaining to draw blood from suspects and arrestees. At one point she even intentionally ripped the flesh off the arm of a woman we had arrested for battery (sprayed her neighbor with a garden water hose). Knowing the woman had thin elastic skin, she performed and Indian burn to the woman’s arm after cuffing her. That woman was in her mid-70’s, a mother and grandmother, and was angry at her tenants who failed to pay rent on time. Something I can completely understand and I am sure many have wanted to do toward tenants who do not pay their rent.

XXXX was also demoted from a senior lead officer rank/position for performance issues. During my two months of working patrol with XXXX, I found her as a woman who was very angry that she had been pulled from patrol for a short time because of a domestic violence report made by Long Beach Police Department because of an incident involving her active LAPD officer boyfriend, XXXX, and herself.

XXXX is the same officer investigated for witness tampering. She also was visibly angry on a daily basis that she was going to have to file for bankruptcy because her ex-husband, a former LAPD officer and not XXXX, who had left the department, state, and was nowhere to be found had left her with a tax bill and debt that she was unable to pay because of a lack of financial means. XXXX, you are a POS and you lied right to the BOR panel when XXXX asked you if you kicked XXXX. You destroyed my life and name because of your actions. Time is up. The time is now to confess to Chief Beck.

I ask that all journalist investigating this story submit request for FOIA with the LAPD to gain access to the BOR transcripts which occurred from 10/08 to 2/09. There, you will see that a video was played for the BOR members of Mr. XXXX who suffers from Schizophrenia and Dementia stating that he was kicked by a female officer.

That video evidence supports my claim that XXXX kicked him twice in the upper body and once in the face. I would like all journalist to also request copies of all reports that I had written while employed by LAPD. Whether in the academy, or during my 3 years as a police officer. There are DR#’s attached to each report (investigative report) that I have ever written so they all exist. A FOIA request will most likely be needed to access these at Parker center or at the Personnel/Records.

Judge my writin/grammar skills for yourself. The department attempted to paint me as an officer who could not write reports. Even though Sgt. XXXX a training officer who trained me stated for the BOR panel that there was nothing wrong with my report writing and that I was better than all rookie/probationer officers he has ever trained. Officer XXXX stated the same but refused to testify as he did not want to “get involved” with the BOR’s. Contact Sgt. XXXX ,(now a Captain at Lompoc PD), Sgt. XXXX, and Sgt. XXXX. All will state that my report writing was impeccable.

I will tell you this, I always type my reports because I have messy handwriting/penmanship. I never had a single kickback/redlined report at Southwest division and Sgt. XXXX and Sgt. XXXX can testify to that. I never received an UNSATISFACTORY on any day or week. The same can be said within the U.S. Naval Reserves. All commanders will state that my report writing was always clear, concise, and impeccable. Even search my AAR (after action reports),chits, Memorandum’s, IIR’s (Intelligence Information Reports) which were written in the Navy. All were pristine.

I had worked patrol at LAPD’s Harbor Division from 2/06 until 7/06 when I was involuntarily recalled back to active duty (US Navy) for a 12 month mobilization/deployment to Centcom in support of OIF/OEF. I returned back to LAPD’s Harbor division on 7/07 and immediately returned to patrol. I worked at Harbor division until 11/07 where I then transferred to Southwest Division. I worked At Southwest division until 6/25/08 when I was relieved of duty.

I have exhausted all available means at obtaining my name back. I have attempted all legal court efforts within appeals at the Superior Courts and California Appellate courts. This is my last resort. The LAPD has suppressed the truth and it has now lead to deadly consequences. The LAPD’s actions have cost me my law enforcement career that began on 2/7/05 and ended on 1/2/09. They cost me my Naval career which started on 4/02 and ends on 2/13. I had a TS/SCI clearance(Top Secret Sensitive Compartmentalized Information clearance) up until shortly after my termination with LAPD.

This is the highest clearance a service member can attain other than a Yankee White TS/SCI which is only granted for those working with and around the President/Vice President of the United States. I lost my position as a Commanding Officer of a Naval Security Forces reserve unit at NAS Fallon because of the LAPD. I’ve lost a relationship with my mother and sister because of the LAPD. I’ve lost a relationship with close friends because of the LAPD. In essence, I’ve lost everything because the LAPD took my name and new I was INNOCENT!!!

XXXX, XXXX, XXXX , and XXXX all new I was innocent but decided to terminate me so they could continue Ofcr. XXXX. I know about the meeting between all of you where XXXX attorney, XXXX, confessed that she kicked XXXX (excessive force). Your day has come.

I’m not an aspiring rapper, I’m not a gang member, I’m not a dope dealer, I don’t have multiple babies momma’s. I am an American by choice, I am a son, I am a brother, I am a military service member, I am a man who has lost complete faith in the system, when the system betrayed, slandered, and libeled me.

I lived a good life and though not a religious man I always stuck to my own personal code of ethics, ethos and always stuck to my shoreline and true North. I didn’t need the US Navy to instill Honor, Courage, and Commitment in me but I thank them for re-enforcing it. It’s in my DNA.

Luckily I don’t have to live everyday like most of you. Concerned if the misconduct you were apart of is going to be discovered. Looking over your shoulder, scurrying at every phone call from internal affairs or from the Captains office wondering if that is the day PSB comes after you for the suspects you struck when they were cuffed months/years ago or that $500 you pocketed from the narcotics dealer, or when the other guys on your watch beat a transient nearly to death and you never reported the UOF to the supervisor.

No, I don’t have that concern, I stood up for what was right but unfortunately have dealt with the reprocussions of doing the right thing and now losing my name and everything I ever stood for. You fuckers knew XXXX was guilty of kicking (excessive force) XXXX and you did nothing but get rid of what you saw as the problem, the whistleblower. XXXX himself stated on video tape ( provided for the BOR and in transcripts) he was kicked and even his father stated that his son said he was kicked by XXXX when he was released from custody. The video was played for the entire BOR to hear. You’re going to see what a whistleblower can do when you take everything from him especially his NAME!!!

Look what you did to Sgt. XXXX (now lieutenant) when he exposed the truth of your lying, racism, and PSB cover-ups to frame and convict an innocent man. You can not police yourselves and the consent decree was unsuccessful. Sgt. XXXX, I met you on the range several times as a recruit and as an officer. You’re a good man and I saw it in your eyes an actions.

Self Preservation is no longer important to me. I do not fear death as I died long ago on 1/2/09. I was told by my mother that sometimes bad things happen to good people. I refuse to accept that.

From 2/05 to 1/09 I saw some of the most vile things humans can inflict on others as a police officer in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, it wasn’t in the streets of LA. It was in the confounds of LAPD police stations and shops (cruisers). The enemy combatants in LA are not the citizens and suspects, it’s the police officers.

People who live in glass houses should not throw stones. How ironic that you utilize a fixed glass structure as your command HQ. You use as a luminous building to symbolize that you are transparent, have nothing to hide, or suppress when in essence, concealing, omitting, and obscuring is your forte.

Chief Beck, this is when you need to have that come to Jesus talk with Sgt. XXXX and everyone else who was involved in the conspiracy to have me terminated for doing the right thing. you also need to speak with her attorney, Rico, and his conversation with the BOR members and her confession of guilt in kicking Mr. XXXX. I’ll be waiting for a PUBLIC response at a press conference. When the truth comes out, the killing stops.

Why didn’t you charge me with filing a false police report when I came forward stating that XXXX kicked Mr. XXXX? You file criminal charges against every other officer who is accused and terminated for filing a false police report. You didn’t because you knew I was innocent and a criminal court would find me innocent and expose your department for suppressing the truth and retaliation, that’s why.

The attacks will stop when the department states the truth about my innocence, PUBLICLY!!! I will not accept any type of currency/goods in exchange for the attacks to stop, nor do i want it. I want my name back, period. There is no negotiation. I am not the state department who states they do not negotiate with terrorist, because anybody with a Secret or TS/SCI has seen IIR’s on SIPR and knows that the US state department always negotiates by using CF countries or independent sovereign/neutral country to mediate and compromising.

This department has not changed from the Daryl Gates and Mark Fuhrman days. Those officers are still employed and have all promoted to Command staff and supervisory positions. I will correct this error. Are you aware that an officer (a rookie/probationer at the time) seen on the Rodney King videotape striking Mr. King multiple times with a baton on 3/3/91 is still employed by the LAPD and is now a Captain on the police department? Captain XXXX is now the commanding officer of a LAPD police station (West LA division).

As a commanding officer, he is now responsible for over 200 officers. Do you trust him to enforce department policy and investigate use of force investigations on arrestees by his officers? Are you aware XXXX has since promoted to Sergeant after kicking Mr. XXXX in the face. Oh, you Violated a citizens civil rights? We will promote you. Same as LAPD did with the officers from Metro involved in the May Day melee at MacArthur Park. They promoted them to Sergeant (a supervisor role).

No one is saying you can’t be prejudiced or a bigot. We are all human and hold prejudices. If you state that you don’t have prejudices, your lying! But, when you act on it and victimize innocent citizens and fellow innocen officers, than that is a concern.

For you officers who do the job in the name of JUSTICE, those of you who lost honest officers to this event, look at the name of those on the BOR and the investigating officers from PSB and XXXX and ask them, how come you couldn’t tell the truth? Why did you terminate an honest officer and cover for a dishonest officer who victimized a mentally ill citizen.

Sometimes humans feel a need to prove they are the dominant race of a species and they inadvertently take kindness for weakness from another individual. You chose wrong.

Terminating officers because they expose a culture of lying, racism (from the academy), and excessive use of force will immediately change. PSB can not police their own and that has been proven. The blue line will forever be severed and a cultural change will be implanted. You have awoken a sleeping giant.

I am here to change and make policy. The culture of LAPD versus the community and honest/good officers needs to and will change. I am here to correct and calibrate your morale compasses to true north.

Those Caucasian officers who join South Bureau divisions (77th,SW,SE, an Harbor) with the sole intent to victimize minorities who are uneducated, and unaware of criminal law, civil law, and civil rights. You prefer the South bureau because a use of force/deadly force is likely and the individual you use UOF on will likely not report it. You are a high value target.

Those Black officers in supervisory ranks and pay grades who stay in south bureau (even though you live in the valley or OC) for the sole intent of getting retribution toward subordinate caucasians officers for the pain and hostile work environment their elders inflicted on you as probationers (P-1's) and novice P-2’s. You are a high value target. You perpetuated the cycle of racism in the department as well. You breed a new generation of bigoted caucasian officer when you belittle them and treat them unfairly.

Those Hispanic officers who victimize their own ethnicity because they are new immigrants to this country and are unaware of their civil rights. You call them wetbacks to their face and demean them in front of fellow officers of different ethnicities so that you will receive some sort of acceptance from your colleagues. I’m not impressed. Most likely, your parents or grandparents were immigrants at one time, but you have forgotten that. You are a high value target.

Those lesbian officers in supervising positions who go to work, day in day out, with the sole intent of attempting to prove your misandrist authority (not feminism) to degrade male officers. You are a high value target.

Those Asian officers who stand by and observe everything I previously mentioned other officers participate in on a daily basis but you say nothing, stand for nothing and protect nothing. Why? Because of your usual saying, ” I……don’t like conflict”. You are a high value target as well.

Those of you who “go along to get along” have no backbone and destroy the foundation of courage. You are the enablers of those who are guilty of misconduct. You are just as guilty as those who break the code of ethics and oath you swore.

Citizens/non-combatants, do not render medical aid to downed officers/enemy combatants. They would not do the same for you. They will let you bleed out just so they can brag to other officers that they had a 187 caper the other day and can’t wait to accrue the overtime in future court subpoenas. As they always say, “that’s the paramedics job…not mine”. Let the balance of loss of life take place. Sometimes a reset needs to occur.

It is endless the amount of times per week officers arrest an individual, label him a suspect-arrestee-defendant and then before arraignment or trial realize that he is innocent based on evidence. You know what they say when they realize an innocent man just had his life turned upside down?. “I guess he should have stayed at home that day he was discovered walking down the street and matching the suspects description. Oh well, he appeared to be a dirtbag anyways”. Meanwhile the falsely accused is left to pick up his life, get a new, family, friends, and sense of self worth.

Don’t honor these fallen officers/dirtbags. When your family members die, they just see you as extra overtime at a crime scene and at a perimeter. Why would you value their lives when they clearly don’t value yours or your family members lives? I’ve heard many officers who state they see dead victims as ATV’s, Waverunners, RV’s and new clothes for their kids.

Why would you shed a tear for them when they in return crack a smile for your loss because of the impending extra money they will receive in their next paycheck for sitting at your loved ones crime scene of 6 hours because of the overtime they will accrue. They take photos of your loved ones recently deceased bodies with their cellphones and play a game of who has the most graphic dead body of the night with officers from other divisions. This isn’t just the 20 something year old officers, this is the 50 year old officers with significant time on the job as well who participate.

You allow an officer, XXXX, to attempt to hack into my credit union account and still remain on the job even when Det. XXXX shows the evidence that the IP address (provided by LAPFCU) that attempted to hack into my account and change my username and password leads directly to her residence. You even allow this visibly disgusting looking officer to stay on the job when she perjures (lies) in court (Clark County Family Court) to the judge’s face and denies hacking into my personal credit union online account when I attempted to get my restraint order extended. Det. XXXX provided the evidence and you still do nothing.

How do you know when a police officer is lying??? When he begins his sentence with, “based on my experience and training”.

No one grows up and wants to be a cop killer. It was against everything I’ve ever was. As a young police explorer I found my calling in life. But, As a young police officer I found that the violent suspects on the street are not the only people you have to watch. All the firearms utilized in my activities are registered to me and were legally purchased at gun stores and private party transfers. All concealable weapons (pistols) were also legally register in my name at police stations or FFL’s. Unfortunately, are you aware that I obtained class III weapons (suppressors) without a background check thru NICS or DROS completely LEGALLY several times? I was able to use a trust account that I created on quicken will maker and a $10 notary charge at a mailbox etc. to obtain them legally. Granted, I am not a felon, nor have a DV misdemeanor conviction or active TRO against me on a NCIC file. I can buy any firearm I want, but should I be able to purchase these class III weapons (SBR’s, and suppressors) without a background check and just a $10 notary signature on a quicken will maker program? The answer is NO. I’m not even a resident of the state i purchased them in. Lock n Load just wanted money so they allow you to purchase class III weapons with just a notarized trust, military ID. Shame on you, Lock n Load. NFA and ATF need new laws and policies that do not allow loopholes such as this. A week later you discovered that the theft suspect was xx xx, a student. You stated to me in private that you know for a fact he stole my property. When I attempted to retrieve my property from the suspect. Campus security was called and you lied and stated that you never stated to me that you “know he stole my watch”. You sat there and lied to their faces right in front of me. You said it with such a deliberate, stern face. I never forgot that and was not surprised when 13 years later I was lied on again in the BOR by xx xx. maybe you can confess to your family at the very least in the private of your own home. After that, contact my mother and apologize for lying to her in 1996.

If possible, I want my brain preserved for science/research to study the effects of severe depression on an individual’s brain. Since 6/26/08 when I was relieved of duty and 1/2/09 when I was terminated I have been afflicted with severe depression. I’ve had two CT scans during my lifetime that are in my medical record at Kaiser Permanente. Both are from concussions resulting from playing football. The first one was in high school, 10/96. The second was in college and occurred in 10/99. Both were conducted at Kaiser Permanente hospitals in LA/Orange county. These two CT scans should give a good baseline for my brain activity before severe depression began in late 2008.

Sure, many of you “law enforcement experts and specialist” will state, “in all my years this is the worst……..”, Stop!!! That’s not important. Ask yourselves what would cause somebody to take these drastic measures like I did. That’s what is important.

Jeffrey Toobin and David Gergen, you are political geniuses and modern scholars. Hopefully Toobin is nominated for the Supreme Court and implements some damn common sense and reasoning instead of partisan bickering. But in true Toobin fashion, we all know he would not accept the nomination.

How classy that your father attempts to use his veterans status “disabled veteran” during your bail hearing but doesn’t state what his disability percentage is.

Prior service personnel know it can be 5% disability to 100%. It’s time to allow gay service member’s spouses to utilize the same benefits that all heterosexual dependents are eligible for. LGBT community and supporters, the same way you have the right to voice your opinion on acceptance of gay marriage, Chick Fil-A has a right to voice their beliefs as well. That’s what makes America so great. Freedom of expression. Don’t be (expletive) and boycott/degrade their business and customers who patronize the locations. They make some damn good chicken! Mr. Bill Cosby, you are a reasonable and talented man who has spoken the truth of the cultural anomalies within the black communities that need to change now. The black communities’ resentment toward you is because they don’t like hearing the truth or having their clear and evident dirty laundry aired to the nation. Before moving ahead with the John Phillips saga, I first need to pose an extremely important question to all my readers: is anyone out there in the market for a slightly used, covert film studio? If so, then all you need do is pull about $6.2 million out of your penny jar (though in today’s housing market, you might be able to cut a better deal) and Lookout Mountain Laboratory can be yours! And if you act fast, you might be able to get a package deal on the lab and the Hodel house! (the photos in this post are of the lab as it looks today as a converted residential dwelling).

Another item worth noting: as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle on January 28, 2011, “Ron Patterson, the flamboyant, free-spirited creator of the Renaissance and Dickens fairs, died Jan. 15 at a friend’s house in Sausalito after an illness. He was 80.” As staff writer Carolyn Jones noted, Patterson’s creation “was sort of a medieval precursor to Burning Man.” And Burning Man is, of course, a rather explicitly occult ritual first performed on the Summer Solstice of 1986 and now performed every summer in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert before an audience of 50,000+.

What does any of that though have to do with Laurel Canyon? As we have seen so many times before, all roads on the Conspiracy Superhighway seem to lead to Laurel Canyon: “In the beginning, the Renaissance Faire was an experiment in Mr. Patterson’s backyard. In the early 1960s, Mr. Patterson and his wife, Phyllis, who were both interested in theater and art, began hosting children’s improvisational theater workshops at their Laurel Canyon (Los Angeles County) home.”

One naturally wonders whether aspiring thespian and golden child Godo Paulekas (originally cast, it will be recalled, to play Satan in Kenneth Anger’s Lucifer Rising) was involved in those workshops. In any event, there is certainly nothing creepy about children’s workshops being hosted in a small, tight-knit community that was home to more than its fair share of pedophiles, so let’s just move along.

One last item of note, this one from, of all places, the pages of Sports Illustrated circa June 29, 1981. The following excerpt is from a short piece written by publisher Philip Howlett to introduce readers to writer Bjarne Rostaing: “Born in Lincoln, N.Y., Rostaing grew up in various places in Connecticut, where he attended what he recalls as an even dozen schools. ‘I got my B.A. and master’s in English from the University of Connecticut,’ he says. ‘Then I did part of a Ph.D. at the University of Washington before going into the Army Intelligence Corps in 1959. We had Paul Rothchild, who later became producer for The Doors and Janis Joplin, to give you some idea of what the unit was like.’”

I’m guessing that it was like countless other intelligence units designed to churn out shapers of public opinion, whether actors, novelists, newsmen, or, in this case, sportswriters and producers of popular music. It is quite shocking, of course, to learn that the handler of two of Laurel Canyon’s most influential and groundbreaking bands (Love and the Doors) had an intel background. Apparently the search is still on for anyone of any prominence in the Laurel Canyon scene who didn’t have direct connections to the intelligence community.

Anyway … during the heyday of the Mamas and the Papas, John and Michelle Phillips knew, and regularly played host to, virtually everyone of importance in the canyons. In addition to all the singers and musicians living in Laurel Canyon, the power couple’s circle of friends included Warren Beatty, Peter and Jane Fonda, Jack Nicholson, Terry Melcher and girlfriend Candace Bergen, Marlon Brando, Roman Polanski and Sharon Tate, Abigail Folger and Voytek Frykowski, soon-to-be-dead gossip columnist Steve Brandt, Larry Hagman, presidential brother-in-law Peter Lawford (fresh from his probable involvement in the murder of Marilyn Monroe), Dennis Hopper, Ryan O’Neal, Mia “Rosemary’s Baby” Farrow, ethereal Freemason Peter Sellers, and Zsa Zsa Gabor.

And a short, scraggly singer/songwriter by the name of Charlie Manson.

There were, to be sure, numerous ties between John Phillips, the ‘Wolf King of LA,’ and Charles Manson. And ties as well between bandmate Cass Elliott and Manson. And between Philips and Cass and the Cielo Drive victims. John Phillips, for example, had invested $10,000 in Jay Sebring’s business venture, Sebring International (rumored to have been a front for various illegal activities, including drug trafficking). Michelle Phillips had a brief affair with Roman Polanski in London while Polanski was married to the soon-to-be-dead Sharon Tate (during that same sojourn to London, Tate was reportedly initiated into the practice of witchcraft).

Mama Cass, as previously noted, lived across the street from the house occupied by Folger and Frykowski at 2774 Woodstock Road. Both homes were frequently visited by known drug dealers. Regulars at Cass’s home included Pic Dawson (also a regular at the Frykowski/Folger home and at the Tate/Polanski home), the son of a US State Department official who, according to John Phillips, was suspected by authorities “of using diplomatic pouches to move drugs between countries,” and Billy Doyle, a local dealer who was infamously filmed while being flogged at the Tate/Polanski house just three days before the murders (according to Dennis Hopper). Another regular was Bill Mentzer, later convicted of the brutal murder of Cotton Club producer Roy Radin and labeled ‘Manson II’ by journalist Maury Terry. The LAPD once described Mentzer as a member of “some kind of hit squad.”

So dark was the scene at the home of the ‘Lady of the Canyon’ that, according to Terry, four of the LAPD’s initial prime suspects in the Tate killings were drug dealers associated with Elliott. And yet, curiously enough, all of the canyon’s peace-and-love spewing musicians were regulars at Mama Cass’s home as well. As Rolling Stone noted in its Fortieth Anniversary Edition, “’Mama’ Cass Elliott’s cozy canyon house functioned as a sort of rock salon.” In a similar vein, Barney Hoskyns wrote in Hotel California that “Cass kept permanent open house.”

Also noted in Hoskyn’s tome was that the Laurel Canyon scene “all spun around him and Cass,” with the “him” in this case being David Van Cortlandt Crosby, who, like Cass, had an insatiable appetite (by his own account) for potent pain killers like Demerol, Dilaudid and Percodan. Crosby was one of many Canyonites who regularly dropped by Cass’s place to hang out and engage in impromptu jam sessions, and to mingle with some seriously disreputable characters.

Also a regular at Cass’s place, by some reports, was Charlie Manson himself. According to Ed Sanders, it was at Cass’s home that Charlie first met her neighbor, coffee heiress Abigail Folger (who helped finance Kenneth Anger’s films, like the one that was supposed to star Godo Paulekas but instead starred Mansonite Bobby Beausoleil). According to Terry, the rather notorious group known as The Process: Church of the Final Judgment – which evidence suggests had deep ties to the Manson, Son of Sam, and Cotton Club murders – actively sought to recruit Mama Cass, as well as John Phillips and Terry Melcher.

A few further bits of Mansonalia: Terry has written that the Family’s iconic bus was seen parked at the home of John and Michelle Phillips in the fall of 1968. Reports also hold that Manson attended a New Year’s Eve party at the couple’s home on December 31, 1968, just months before the murders. So close were the ties between the Mamas and the Papas and the Manson clan that both John Phillips and Mama Cass were slated to appear as witnesses for the defense at the Family’s trial, though not surprisingly, neither was ever called.

For a band that sang about being “safe and warm, if I was in LA,” the members of the Mamas and the Papas kept some pretty dangerous company in the city of angels … which reminds me that, not long after the band hit the charts, Tamar Hodel received a postcard from Michelle Phillips asking her to watch their scheduled performance on the Ed Sullivan Show and then meet the group at San Francisco’s Fairmont Hotel before a scheduled concert. Tamar showed up with father George at her side, the two apparently still maintaining a close relationship, and Tamar, George, John, Michelle, Denny and Cass embarked on a drug-fueled pre-show odyssey.

By 1970, John and Michelle had divorced. Many years later, Michelle would reveal that their time together had included at least one episode of domestic violence, one that she was still reluctant to discuss: “It was serious. I ended up in the hospital. That’s all I’ll say about it.” The union had yielded John a second daughter, Gilliam Chynna Phillips, born February 12, 1968 in Los Angeles.

On January 31, 1972, John Phillips married for the third time, to actress and Crowley aficionado Genevieve Waite; on the wedding guest list were soon-to-be-governor Jerry Brown and soon-to-be-lieutenant-governor Mike Curb. The couple’s time together would be marked by wildly out-of-control drug consumption and the birth of two more offspring: Tamerlane, whose name is presumably in part an homage to Tamar Hodel, and Bijou Lilly, who was taken away and placed in foster care in Bolton Landing, New York after her drug-addled parents were deemed unfit to raise her.

In June 1972, shortly after marrying Waite, Phillips moved into a canyon home at 414 St. Pierre Road that had been built by William Randolph Hearst. The Rolling Stones had just vacated the property, and their trusty sidekick, Gram Parsons, would grow very close to John Phillips. Parsons, of course, would soon turn up dead, while John would head off to London, where he reportedly planned to record a solo album with assistance from Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. That project never got off the ground, however, as Phillip’s addictions rendered him impossible to work with, even for a world-class drug abuser like Richards.

Cass Elliott turned up in London the very next year, but unlike her former bandmate, her trip abroad was to be one-way; on July 29, 1974, she was found dead in occasional Canyonite Harry Nilsson’s London flat. Ms Elliott, it seems safe to say, knew a little too much about the dark side of Laurel Canyon.

Following the dissolution of the Mamas and the Papas, Cass had gone on to a successful solo career and had become a familiar face on American television screens. In addition to hosting two prime-time network specials, she had guest-hosted the Tonight Show and had appeared on such popular early-1970s shows as The Red Skelton Show and Love, American Style.

She had been married twice, first in 1963 to vocalist Jim Hendricks in what was reportedly a platonic arrangement aimed at getting Hendricks a draft deferment. During that first marriage, which was annulled in 1968, Cass had given birth to a daughter, Owen Vanessa Elliott, born on April 26, 1967. Hendricks, however, was reportedly not the father and Cass steadfastly refused to reveal who Owen’s true father was. In 1971, following the breakup of the band, Cass married again, this time to Baron Donald von Weidenman, a wealthy Bavarian heir. That marriage collapsed after just a few months though and Cass was single when she died just a few years later. Owen, already fatherless, was just seven.

Denny Doherty, meanwhile, went on to host a popular variety show in Canada, as well as performing in various formations of the New Mamas and the Papas. He passed away on January 19, 2007, reportedly due to kidney failure.

Michelle Phillips released an unsuccessful solo album, but then switched gears and went on to a successful acting career, gracing the small screen in such hit shows as Knot’s Landing, Hotel, and Beverly Hills, 90210. She continued to have numerous flings and has married several more times. At sixty-seven, she is the only living member of the original Mamas and the Papas.

Returning now to John Phillips, in 1975 he sobered up enough to put together the soundtrack for the film The Man Who Fell to Earth, a surreal venture featuring the talents of fledgling actor David Bowie and director Nicholas Roeg, who had previously collaborated with Crowleyite Donald Cammell on the heavily occult-influenced Performance. Roeg’s film, curiously enough, includes a cameo appearance by Apollo astronaut Jim Lovell. At that same time, Phillips was working on completing a horrifically bad, Andy Warhol-produced musical entitled Man on the Moon, which closed just two days after opening.

As a side note, Phillips at one time had Don “Miami Vice” Johnson in mind to play the lead in his space opera. Like the rest of the Hollywood notables in this story, Johnson was a canyon dweller at the time. His next-door neighbor was a guy by the name of Chuck Wein, an avid occultist and buddy of Warhol who, in addition to managing bizarre nightclub acts, directed the 1972 new age documentary Rainbow Bridge, filmed less than two months before star Jimi Hendrix turned up dead. Wein shared a curious nickname with fellow Canyonite Charlie Manson: ‘The Wizard.’ But I may have drifted a little off-topic here …

Some of you may have noticed, by the way, that I am all but cured of my former addiction to the word ‘digress,’ thanks to a twelve-step program I’ve been working my way through. I can now veer off on wild tangents having little to do with the main topic of discussion – like filling you in, for example, on nonexistent twelve-step programs – and not feel the slightest compulsion to point out the temporary loss of focus.

Anyway … for the remainder of his career, Phillips’ musical output consisted primarily of occasionally writing songs for and with others, his most well known contribution being his co-writing duties on the wretchedly awful Kokomo, recorded by the Beach Boys.

In 1981, Phillips found himself facing charges of trafficking large volumes of narcotics. By his own account, he had an arrangement with a pharmacy that allowed him to obtain large amounts of narcotics without prescriptions (daughter Bijou would later say that he had actually purchased the pharmacy, guaranteeing virtually unlimited access). The charges were quite serious; in Phillip’s own words, he “was looking at forty-five years and got thirty days.” He began serving his sentence, appropriately enough, on April 20, and he was released just three-and-a-half weeks later.

He should have gotten at least ninety days just for Kokomo. It never hurts to have friends in high places.

Phillip’s circle of friends, in the post-Mamas and Papas years, included J. Paul Getty, Jr., Bobby Kennedy, Jr., and Princess Margaret. Getty and Kennedy, both plagued by demons of their own, were likely being supplied by Phillips. Another name in Phillips’ rolodex was Colin Tennant, the wealthy heir of a massive petrochemical conglomerate in the UK. Tennant owned a private island in the British West Indies where wealthy friends like John Phillips and Mick and Bianca Jagger could engage in unknown activities in complete seclusion.

Upon being released from his preposterously short period of confinement, Phillips put together a version of the Mamas and the Papas that included daughter Mackenzie Phillips and original lead vocalist Denny Doherty. Scott McKenzie, who had summoned all the runaways across the country to come to San Francisco with flowers in their hair, later replaced Doherty. Laurie Beebe subsequently replaced Mackenzie Phillips, after which Doherty returned one again to replace John Phillips. The band finally called it quits in 1994.

Phillips had divorced Waite in 1985. In 1992, he received a liver transplant and a new lease on life. Just months later, he was photographed drinking in a bar in Palm Springs. In 1998, Phillips and the other surviving members of the Mamas and the Papas were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Three years later, on March 18, 2001, Phillips died of heart failure. The saga wasn’t quite over, however; Phillips’ daughters would carry on with the family tradition – while spilling some dark family secrets along the way.

Oldest daughter Mackenzie began her acting career at the tender age of twelve when she landed a role in what was to be George Lucas’ breakthrough film, American Graffiti. Just a few years before, it will be recalled, Lucas had been an unknown cameraman at the Rolling Stones’ notorious Altamont concert. During filming of Graffiti in 1972, John Phillips, who I’m sure had lots of important business to attend to and therefore little time to look after his daughter, signed over legal guardianship of Mackenzie to producer Gary Kurtz.

A few years later, in 1975, Mackenzie landed a role on what would quickly become a hit television series, One Day at a Time. During the third season, however, Mackenzie was arrested for public drunkenness and cocaine possession, after which her substance abuse problems continued to spiral out of control, causing frequent problems and considerable tension on the set of her hit show. Providing a template for Charlie Sheen to later follow, she was fired from the production in 1980.

After two nearly fatal overdoses, she was invited back by producers in 1981. The following year though she collapsed on the set and was once again fired. What had once seemed a very promising acting career was over as quickly as it had begun.

From the late 1980s through the early 1990s, she performed intermittently with the reformed Mamas and Papas. In 1992, she reportedly entered a long-term rehab program that she didn’t emerge from for nine months. Following that, she kept a low profile for many years. In August 2008, however, she was arrested at LAX for heroin and cocaine possession and on Halloween day 2008, she entered a guilty plea and was once again sent to rehab.

A year later, in September 2009, Mackenzie released her tell-all memoir, High on Arrival, which painted a dark and disturbing picture of her late father. In addition to introducing her to drugs at the age of eleven by injecting her with cocaine, Mackenzie claimed that Papa John had raped her on the eve of her first marriage, and had engaged in an incestuous affair with her that spanned a decade and ended only when she became pregnant and did not know who the father was – a scenario, it should be noted, with remarkable parallels to the ordeal endured by Michelle’s surrogate mother, Tamar Hodel.

John Phillips’ memoir covering the time period in question makes no mention of the illicit relationship with his daughter. He does claim that Mackenzie was once raped at knifepoint by an unknown assailant. He also notes, shockingly enough, that Mackenzie’s “house in Laurel Canyon was destroyed by fire.” That, as we all know, hardly ever happens.

The year after dropping her bombshells, Mackenzie appeared on what is arguably the most appalling ‘reality’ show to ever hit the airwaves, Celebrity Rehab, in a role far removed from her glory days on a hit primetime show. That same year, sister Chynna Phillips entered rehab as well, though she was seeking relief from, uhmm, ‘anxiety.’

Chynna first captured the spotlight in 1990 as 1/3 of the vocal group Wilson Phillips, alongside of Carnie and Wendy Wilson, offspring of the reclusive Brian Wilson (the only Beach Boy, by the way, to not be involved with the aforementioned Kokomo, and arguably the only really talented Beach Boy). That group though proved to be very short-lived, as did Chynna’s musical career.

In 1995, Chynna married actor William Baldwin. In 2003, she became what Vanity Faire described as a “fervent born-again Christian. She was baptized in brother-in-law Stephen Baldwin’s bathtub.” The magazine also quoted Chynna as saying that “being a mom is challenging for me – my perspective is warped.”

Like her older sisters, Bijou Lilly Phillips – born April 1, 1980, just a year before her father was harshly punished for running a major narcotics trafficking operation – merged into the fast lane at a very young age. Her mother was addicted to heroin while carrying her and Bijou has candidly described herself as a “crack baby.” Raised partially in a foster home, she was reunited with her father by the courts when in the third grade. That wasn’t necessarily a good thing.
Described by Index magazine as “a wild child who, through fate and circumstance, was somehow allowed to partake of New York’s nebulous nightlife at an age traditionally more suited to playing with dolls,” she was a cover model from a very young age. She was also, perhaps not surprisingly, the fourteen-year-old star of a Calvin Klein ad campaign that many people (as well as the US Justice Department) considered to be bordering on child pornography, and that Bijou herself has referred to as “the kiddy porn ads.”

Bijou told her interviewer from Index that lurking behind the scenes of that notorious Calvin Klein photo shoot – I’m guessing as a technical adviser – “was this porn guy.” The interviewer identified that “porn guy” as Ron Jeremy, probably the world’s most famous, and arguably the world’s most inexplicable, porn star.

I should, I suppose, qualify that last statement: Ron Jeremy’s fame is inexplicable in the sense that it is hard to imagine that anyone, male or female, really wants to see Ron Jeremy naked. He is not, however, just any ol’ porn star. To the contrary, he is a porn star whose mother was an asset of the OSS, precursor to the CIA, and whose physicist father had probable intel connections as well. And he is a porn star who attended high school with none other than future CIA director George Tenet, and a porn star whose uncle had ties to notorious gangster Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel.

He is, in other words, an extremely well hung connected porn star.

Bijou has alluded to the fact that Mackenzie was not the only Phillips daughter to receive unwanted attention from Papa John. In her music can be found lyrics such as “he touched me wrong.” Asked directly about such references, she told an interviewer that she had “made this decision not to talk to the press about anything that’s gone on in my life, but just to write music about it. They can interpret it themselves,” though she then quickly added, “It’s blatantly obvious.”

The youngest of the Phillips clan also acknowledged that she has a “Daddy” tattoo on her rear. “That was [done] during a time,” she said, “when I was a pretty sick puppy.”

Bijou made her film debut in 1999 and has had a number of low-profile film and television roles since then. Most recently, she had a recurring role on the freshman season of Raising Hope as, of all things, a serial killer. She is currently an avid Scientologist. Many of the problems she has faced, she ultimately realized, stem from the fact that she’d “never been shown respect by [her] parents. [She’d] always been treated like an object, not like a human.”
