A few years ago, I picked up Tilly, pictured here, held her in my arms and declared to the pooch:
"According to Rene Descartes, animals have no souls."
Upon which a big fat tear welled up in her eye and cascaded down her furry cheek. I have an eye witness to this event and need no further proof that the French philosopher was seriously deluded on the day he uttered such a ridiculous statement.
