Lady Gaga Scores 13 VMA Nominations
"God put me on Earth for three reasons: to make loud music, gay videos and cause a damn raucous."
Aug 03, 2010

Lady Gaga scored a record-shattering 13 nominations for the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, including two nods apiece in the Best Female Video, Best Collaboration, Best Pop Video and Video of the Year categories. Eminem racked up the second-most nominations with eight, including Video of the Year and Best Hip-Hop Video for "Not Afraid."

"I'm so honored for all the little monsters and self-professed freaks of the universe, to have more VMA nominations in a single year than any artist in MTV history. Ironically, I'm even more proud it's an unlucky number; 13," Gaga said in a statement. "A long time ago the world told me and my little monsters we would never be heard, together we changed the rules. God put me on Earth for three reasons: To make loud music, gay videos, and cause a damn raucous."

All of Gaga's nominations come from a trio of songs: Fame Monster's "Bad Romance" and a pair of Beyoncé collaborations, "Telephone" and "Video Phone (Extended Remix)." B.o.B and Hayley Williams' "Airplanes," 30 Seconds to Mars' "Kings and Queens" and, most surprisingly, Florence and the Machine's "Dog Days Are Over," will also compete for Video of the Year. As Rolling Stone reported earlier today, Paramore, Muse, MGMT, 30 Seconds to Mars and Florence and the Machine will compete for Best Rock Video.

Perhaps in an attempt to drum up some drama for this year's ceremony, which will air live on September 12th from Los Angeles' Nokia Theatre, both Taylor Swift (Best Female Video for "Fifteen") and Kanye West (Best Hip-Hop Video for "Forever") were nominated, making a reunion between the two at the VMAs seemingly inevitable.

B.o.B. wound up with five nominations, and Ke$ha earned three for "TiK ToK." The Black Keys and Gorillaz both scored nods for Breakthrough Video (for "Tighten Up" and "Stylo," respectively) and Justin Bieber will compete against Ke$ha, Jason Derulo, Nicki Minaj and Broken Bells for Best New Artist.
