The battle of the bottle blondes - what happened when Madonna met Lady GaGa on American TV
05th October 2009
It's not often mainstream American television features two Amazonian blondes cat-fighting in leather lingerie and thigh-high boots.

But on closer inspection viewers would have recognised the brawling pair as chart-topper Lady GaGa and pop legend Madonna.

There was hair-pulling, pushing and wrestling until the practical-joking pair kissed and made up.

It all started out innocently enough.

Lady GaGa began performing a song on a mock-up music show called "Deep Dish" on Saturday Night Live.

Madonna joined in with the dance routine but their "rivalry" soon reached boiling point and the fists began to fly.

Soon there were headlocks and bundling on the ground - much to the "horror" of the show's host Kenan Thompson who invited them to sit on the sofa with him to cool off.

But it wasn't long before the duo started their fisticuffs again and had to be separated - only to lock lips later as a gesture of goodwill.

However, presenter Kenan Thompson ensured their lips planted on his cheeks instead by diving in between them.

GaGa, real name Stefani Germanotta, has previously compared herself to the Material Girl, saying, “We’re both Italian-American women, we both started out in the New York underground scene - and we both became famous when we dyed our hair blonde.

“I think what Madonna and I share is that we’re both fearless, we both have a lot of nerve.”

Madonna's made no secret of the fact she's a fan of GaGa's having been spotted at her show in New York with daughter Lourdes.

Great shots! I think we can't ignore this kind of entertainment, as you know each week, the show features a host (my favorite part) who delivers an opening monologue and performs in sketches with the cast. A musical guest also performs.
