Lisa Pease on Votescam 2008

Dear Activists,

It’s not fun to be reminded how important our election reform work is.

I have been slow to cry foul re NH, precisely because I deal in conspiracies and know how hard it is to prove things. But this data is REALLY provocative, and begs explanation:

Clinton Votes counted by optical scan 91,717 52.95%
Obama Votes counted by optical scan 81,495 47.05%

Clinton Votes counted by hand 20,889 47.05%
Obama Votes counted by hand 23,509 52.95%

Source: Bruce O’Dell’s article re Election Defense Alliance’s compilation of the official NH numbers - http://www.opednews.com/articles/opedne_bruce_o__080110_obama_clinton_3a_remar.htm

You should also see Chris Matthews on the video on this page (http://www.bradblog.com/?p=5535), saying that MSNBC’s own exit polls showed Obama up by 8%. (That doesn’t mean Matthews was right, but again, provocative as heck).

Fortunately for all of us, Dennis Kucinich requested a recount. I hope no one manages to block his request, and I hope the recount is transparently honest enough so that, whatever the results, people can readily accept them.

As early as next week, Rep. Rush Holt plans to introduce an emergency measure that will offer replacement funding for any state or county wishing to switch to a system that provides paper ballots and 3% audits by the November election.

While the thought that votes may have been switched in NH is scary, let’s ride the issue’s visibility to at least a minimal solution this fall, and a more robust one as soon as possible.

Stay tuned, and thanks again for all you do!

"Nothing can now be believed which is seen in a newspaper. Truth itself becomes suspicious by being put into that polluted vehicle. The real extent of this state of misinformation is known only to those who are in situations to confront facts within their knowledge with the lies of the day." - Thomas Jefferson
