Thoughts on Teddy

Kenn Thomas

Two brothers died in high profile political assassinations. All of a sudden, he finds himself upside down in a car at the bottom of a lake, the person next to him dead. Escaping that situation, what should he do? Call the police? One brother was attorney general; the other was president. No, he spends nine hours understandably calling lawyers and powerful friends for protection.

Even mainstream historians acknowledge that E. Howard Hunt was on the scene--a Bay of Pigs operative; a Watergate burglar; a mysterious plane crash killed his wife, who was carrying pay-off money; some people identify him as one of the rail yard trarmps in Dallas. According to them, Nixon sent Hunt just to gather information, dirt on Kennedy, about Chappaquiddick. Non-mainstream sources suggest that Hunt had a hand in the incident itself.

So many people acknowledge that Ted Kennedy was a maverick responsible for a great deal of socially progressive legislation but they can't give him their full respect because of the irresponsible behavior at Chappaquiddick.
